Corteo, which means “cortege” in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. Acrobats and actors plunge into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth. The main character is a clown who pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over quietly by caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic, and the perfect with the imperfect, the show brings to life the clown’s strength and fragility as well as his wisdom and kindness.
The production is intended to convey a visual message to the audience that they too should recognize all of these traits within themselves, but is done in a way that teases illusion with reality.
